Though I wanted to post this sometime ago, could not get the pictures transfered to my computer. Finally its here....... Fish is one the family favorites at home and my little one has become a fan of it too. The moment he sees fish, he gets interested in every process till he finds it on his plate. J When we buy fish I wash them in salt water in a wide kadai. Whenever he finds that kadai on the kitchen counter, he assumes that we have got fish and would ask for it. He pulls out the Kadai and pretends to be cooking fish these days! He can actually identify the utensils that we use to prepare something in particular. For eg. If he finds the pan, he pretends to prepare Chapathis, if he finds a pot that we use to cook Raagi balls he would do the same. Wow, I am really amazed at his memory and grasping skills at this tender age of 19 months. I can see, he is learning new words and skills so rapidly that I get off guard sometimes and start thinking… now, who taught him to say or do that!!! And I am amazed at his smelling senses!! He can easily sense if there is any non-veg preparation at home and refuses to eat Dal and Rice until he smells it in every bite. J
Enough of the story and now off to the recipe…. J This fish fry recipe is very simple and easy that you could put them together in 5 minutes and it takes another 10 minutes to fry and set it on the table! I usually don’t get the time to marinate the fish, though I would prefer it to. Many times hubby gets it at the last minute and we are left with very few minutes in hand to set the table for dinner/Lunch. Many times I argue with him to bring it few hours earlier to marinate it so that the meat/fish would absorb all the flavours of spices! It really makes a huge difference when you marinate the fish/meat for an hour at least! So, here goes the simple recipe…….
Ingredients required:
500 gms - Fish/any fish with less bones
2 tablespoon Red Chili powder / adjust according to your taste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ginger/garlic paste
3 tablespoon Limejuice or white vinegar
½ cup fine Semolina/Sooji
Oil for shallow frying
Salt to taste
Method of preparation:
1. Clean the fish pieces with salt and turmeric powder thoroughly and drain it completely
2. In a bowl, take Chili powder, turmeric powder, ginger/garlic paste and salt. Mix them with lime juice or vinegar into a thick paste without adding any water.
3. Apply the paste on the fish individually and set aside for at least 15-30 minutes so that the fish absorbs the masala.
4. Finally coat the fish on both the sides with semolina/Sooji and shallow fry on both the sides till they turn golden brown.
5. Serve hot with Rice and Dal or as an appetizer with onion and lime slices.
You could also use ¼ cup of tamarind puree instead of lime/vinegar. It would taste amazing as well. I usually experiment with different ingredients and spices. But nothing can beat this simple and easy fish fry recipe. I don’t even use ginger garlic paste sometimes because it makes the fish stick to the pan which can be avoided by using Semolina/Sooji. But sooji absorbs all the spiciness from the fish unless you use a strong masala base. So it tastes equally good even without Sooji and ginger-garlic paste J
Do take care and eat healthy J
Points to ponder:
Jesus was walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Mathew 4:18-22 (NKJV)
Jesus knew that it is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God and thats why He called the humble and poor fishermen to be his first disciples.
